With 38 years experience, Richard is an instructor you can trust.
Shifu (teacher) Rich Cummings has been active in the martial arts for the past 38 years and began his adult career in 1983 when he began studying Pai Lum White Dragon Kung Fu. Within a short time he was competing throughout the state in the Florida Association of Martial Arts Events (FAME) circuit.
He studied Pai Lum White Dragon and then in 1986 he found the Wah Lum club in Rockledge where his current teacher (Tom Haase) was assisting.
In 1992 when Tom Haase opened the full-time school in Merritt Island, Rich was one of the first students to join. He studied Kung Fu and Tai Chi, and in 1997 his teacher moved and started a school in Tampa. In an unrelated business move in 1998, Shifu Rich moved to Sarasota, and commuted to Tampa several times a week to continue his Martial Arts studies, where he is a senior student today. He started a Tai Chi Club in Longwood Park that same year. He has been teaching continuously at the park since that time.
Shifu Rich has had the opportunity to train with numerous Grandmasters and Masters to enhance his Tai Chi and Kung Fu. His additional training includes: Tai Chi Mei Hua Praying Mantis, Olympic style gymnastics, Bagua, Chen Tai Chi, Wu Tai Chi, and Advanced Yang Style Tai Chi.
Richard Cummings is a unique Tai Chi Teacher in Sarasota.
Tai Chi in Sarasota
"I have had the pleasure of teaching Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan at the Longwood Park Recreational Center for 24 years. My goal is to help people attain better posture, grace, rhythm and timing, and improved self-awareness through the practice of Tai Chi and Qigong (Chi Gong)."
-Richard Cummings
"We found Tai Chi to be very helpful for all parts of our bodies. It helped with balance, flexibility and concentration. We believe it would benefit all age groups. The coach Rich Cummings is the best....he truly cares about every class member and gives each person personal attention. We highly recommend giving University Tai Chi a try!"
